The Promise Of The Lord Descending #2

The Promise Of The Lord Descending #2

Devotional #5

“And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. And suddenly there came a sound from Heaven as of a rushing mighty wind and it filled all the house where were sitting. And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each one of them and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.” Acts 2: 1-4

In continuation of what is said in the previous sharing, concerning the above verses the second point is: word Rushing in Greek PHERO means to be carried, brought, or to be driven, the word Wind in Greek PNOE is derived from the root word PNEUMA.

The verse we are considering Acts 2:2 is translated as WIND, and the same word in Acts 17:25 is translated as BREATH, and the AIR and is considered as proper for breathing also.

In Acts 2:2. PNEUMA may mean something material or something spiritual such as a spiritual gift or spirit of man (as in Genesis 2:7, Zech 12:1, Prov 20:27) which is an immaterial element in man enabling him to communicate with the Spirit of God.

In Acts 2: 4, They are filled with Holy Ghost (PNEUMA).

In John 3:8 Lord was speaking with Nicodemus “The wind (PNEUMA) bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell  whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit (PNEUMA).

We see from the above verses, the word in Greek is translated into English as Breath, Wind, and Spirit. As Lord told to disciples and promised that they will receive the Holy Spirit, that is fulfilled in the above verses.

In the same chapter, Verse 33 Apostle Peter says – having received of the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit he shed forth this. In the Old Testament, He was mentioned in Psalm 68: 18, Thou has received gifts for men…. That the Lord might dwell among them. Lord also told his disciples that after departure He will send Holy Spirit ( John 15:26) and accordingly He sent Him.

After the Spirit descended they are filled with the Holy Ghost… When God created man, HE breathed the breath of lives into the nostrils of man (Gen 2:7) and man became a living soul. The man was never dwelt by the Holy Spirit continually as we see here in Acts 2:4. In the Old Testament the men were filled with His Spirit for a specific purpose and time.

We see here God making His abode in a redeemed man. This is the most wonderful thing that happened to fulfill his plans and purposes through those who received the gift and show obedience to His counsel continually.

When our Lord was baptized by John the Baptist, the Spirit descended from heaven like a dove, and the Spirit remained on Him (John 1: 32-33). Jesus Christ is the first person on whom the Spirit remained and the same is he which baptizeth with the Holy Ghost.

After the day of Pentecost, God made his abode first time on earth by descending on one hundred twenty people who gathered in the room. Those who are gentle like a dove, willing to show obedience like our Lord, to fulfill the counsels and purposes of the Father on earth, He will make His abode on them too (1 Cor 6: 17,19).

It is a great blessing to receive the Holy Spirit and allow Him to dwell in us to
experience the power of God and receive communication about heavenly matters from the Father.

It is truly a great blessing to God be dwelling in a man.

Lord may help us to come into the experience of His power to do His will.
