Matthew 5:40-48

Matthew 5:40-48

SERMON ON THE MOUNT

43 “You have heard that it was said, ‘Love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ 44 But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, 45 that you may be children of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. 46 If you love those who love you, what reward will you get? Are not even the tax collectors doing that? 47 And if you greet only your own people, what are you doing more than others? Do not even pagans do that? 48 Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect.

Lord gave everything to us freely. He advises his disciple’s same thing. Those who loose for the sake of the coming kingdom will gain everything.

A cloak is an inner garment if that is demanded by the adversary in the court, give that also. The beautiful example we can see is in 2 Sam 19: 26-30. Mephibosheth, how he was willing to let go of everything of his to his servant Ziba.  Mephibosheth has filled in his heart about king David so He did let go of everything.  If our hearts are filled with the coming of our Lord, these principles are easy to be done by the grace of God.

1Cor6: 1-7, Paul admonishes the Corinthian believers because they were fighting in the court of law before the unbelievers.  Heb 6:10 The Lord is not unrighteous to forget your work and labor of love by ministering to the saints.

Heb 10:31-34, The believers took joyfully the spoiling of goods knowing that they have enduring substance in the coming kingdom.

Matthew 5: 41, Showing obedience to higher authorities Rom 13: 5-6, and in the case of our Lord he showed the example by paying the tribute to Caesar as in Matthew 17: 24-25, though He was the of God.

5:42, Give to him that asketh thee, and from him that would borrow of thee turn not thou away. Deut 15: 7-10 Thou shall not harden your heart toward poor.

Otherwise poor man will cry unto the Lord against you, but if you lend the Lord will bless you. The Lord advises his disciples in Luke 6:33-34 towards anyone who wants to borrow from us.

1 John 3:16-17, John the apostle exhorts us on how we should respond to our poor brethren. We may learn to open our hearts toward our poor brothers to fulfill the councils of our Lord.
