Devotional #8
"And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. And suddenly there came a sound from Heaven as of a rushing mighty wind and it filled all the house where they were sitting." Acts 2: 1-2 "For in one Spirit were we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and were all made to drink of one Spirit." (Revised Edition) 1 Cor 12: 13. "And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath (spirit) of lives, and man became a living soul." Gen 2:7
When the day of Pentecost fully came, as promised by the Lord Holy Spirit came and filled the house. This is the moment those who were gathered in the house were baptized in the Spirit. The disciples were associated with one another before the Spirit came. But when the Spirit came and baptized them, they were all incorporated into one body.
Till the Lord breathed another created element termed breath or spirit into a formed man there is no life in the man. When the spirit was breathed into him, all members of the body were animated to function as one body.
On the day of Pentecost when the Holy Spirit descended on them not only filled each one of them, spiritually animated them but also incorporated them to function as one body.
The heavenly entity the Church was formed by incorporating them into one body through baptism in Spirit. Different members though they came from several backgrounds yet they were formed into one body in one Spirit 1Cor 12: 13.
Lord said to His disciples while He was here on the last day, “At that day (when the Holy Spirit descended) ye shall know that I am in my Father and ye in me and I in you. John 14:20.” “And the glory…that they may be one, even as we are one; John 17:22” Lord’s desire for his disciples was that all those who believed in Him should become one body and function under His authority to glorify Him.
But Peter, standing up with the eleven …. Hearken to my words Act 2:14. All twelve disciples functioning as one; “About three thousand were added unto them on the day of Pentecost” Acts 2:41. “And the Lord added to the church daily” Acts 2:47.
The word ADDED in both verses in Greek is PROSETHESAN which means put together for a purpose. “And all that believed were united together “Acts 2: 44, United by Holy Spirit. And the multitude of them that believed were of one heart and one soul Acts 4:32. More than three thousand believers of one heart and one soul. This is the miraculous work of the Spirit.
Incorporating a believer into the church body is the work of the Spirit. The Lord said, “I will build my Church Matthew 16: 18”. Every human way employed in building this heavenly entity has not yielded desired results. Let us watch and pray to coordinate with Him as the Lord uses Spirit in building His Church the heavenly bride for His glory.
Those who already were added may endeavor to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. There is one body one Spirit Eph 4:3-4.
