Devotional #4
“And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. And suddenly there came a sound from Heaven as of a rushing mighty wind and it filled all the house where were sitting. And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each one of them and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.” Acts 2: 1-4
Our Lord was appearing unto disciples by the space of forty days after his resurrection and speaking to them about the Kingdom of God and commanded them to wait for the promise of the Father (Acts 1:3,4).
Ten days after the Lord ascended unto Heaven on the fiftieth day, a day of Pentecost as per the promise of the Father, the Holy Spirit descended on one hundred and twenty disciples gathered in one room.
Verses 1-4 quoted above from Chapter 2 of Acts of Apostles (or may we call them the acts of the Holy Spirit with much reverence) show different things that happened in one event occurred.
Firstly: there came a sound from Heaven: This phrase shows the origin of the Holy Spirit. When the Lord was here, He told His disciples that after his departure, But the comforter (advocate, Paraclete in Greek) even Holy Spirit whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things ….. unto you, John 14:26.
Holy Spirit continues to convey to believers while living on earth in flesh and blood, things that He has seen and heard in Heavens. Sending the gift of the promise of the Father to us is to prepare for the heavenly abode and that is the ministry of the Holy Spirit. Lord’s desire for us is that we should be where He is in a future dispensation. It needs a metamorphosis in us, from earthly man to heavenly man.
Holy Spirit was sent in His name from heaven and will transform us by working in those who obey Him. As earthly people do not have an understanding of heavenly nature, heavenly order, and its power and government. When He comes he will guide you into all the truth, John 16:13.
Lord has spoken to his disciples what he has seen and heard, similarly, Holy Spirit will continue to guide and teach us about all things in heavenly places.
